The subject of color inspires Marcia Ballou. She’s a collage artist. She works to employ both deliberate and spontaneous appliqués. She begins the composition with a simple color pencil plan on paper. On the canvas or board the color of light and atmosphere is applied with intuitive gestures with paint to then sift through a collection of painted papers and cloth. The pieces are cut and torn and applied with acrylic medium and enhanced with acrylic paint.
Marcia’s compositions are enlivened by the unexpected combination of materials. The patterns create blossoms of textures on the surface of the painting. Her goal is to evoke joy.
“Dina is always helpful when it comes to framing my large pieces. Best design team ever!” M.B.
“One of my favorite aspects of Marcia’s work is that is enlivened with unexpected combinations of materials and colors at each glance. I admire her technique of starting with a simple drawing and expanding to a pattern that takes on a rhythm composed of painted papers, cloth, acrylic paint, a selection of chalks, pastels and pens.” – Dina B.
